Once built by the knights of Chasteignier de la Roche-Posay, this storybook retreat blends centuries of history with modern elegance, offering château suites, charming farmhouse cottages, the One-Michelin-starred Restaurant Dyades, and the award-winning Le Moulin Spa.

At Le Moulin Spa, housed in a centuries-old mill, guests enjoy treatments with natural ingredients alongside thermal baths, steam rooms, and an indoor pool. SUSTAINABILITY
Nature is at the heart of the Domaine’s philosophy. Spanning 1,000 hectares of preserved land, the estate prioritizes biodiversity with PEFC-certified sustainable forest management, natural meadow conservation, and projects to protect and monitor wildlife in partnership with the French National Museum of Natural History. The Domaine fosters healthy ecosystems through organic farming, permaculture gardens, and animal welfare initiatives for its heritage Limousin cattle.
The Domaine works with local artisans for renovation and furnishing, preserving traditional craftsmanship. Through the Didier and Martine Primat Foundation and the Odonata Fund, it supports global initiatives promoting biodiversity, climate education, animal welfare, and reducing plastic pollution. Educational programs and guided nature experiences help raise awareness among guests and local communities about sustainable living.
The estate grows its own organic vegetables, fruits, and herbs in a 2,500 m² permaculture garden and orchard, ensuring seasonal and chemical-free produce for the kitchen. Meat and dairy come from the estate’s certified organic Limousin cattle farm. Additional ingredients and spa products are sourced from local producers, reducing food miles and supporting regional agriculture.
Domaine des Etangs reduces energy consumption through a biomass wood-chip boiler for heating and hot water, geothermal heating for some cottages, and motion sensors in service areas. It uses low-energy bulbs, switches off lights during the day, and limits external lighting at night. Guests and staff have access to electric vehicles and charging stations to minimize emissions, and the estate purchases 100% renewable electricity.
Water is managed responsibly, with irrigation using water from the estate’s ponds and ozone purification for the indoor pool to reduce chemical use. Guests are encouraged to participate in water-saving measures, such as reusing linens through an in-room “Greenwheel” system.
The Domaine minimizes waste with selective sorting, recycling of oils, composting organic waste for the vegetable garden, and repurposing blemished produce into jams and preserves. Single-use plastics have been nearly eliminated, replaced by glass dispensers, bamboo or glass straws, and eco-labeled cleaning products. The restaurant Dyades is Ecotable-certified for sustainable dining practices.
