Ownia Collection’s main goal is to make sustainable travel the norm and not the exception, that is why we take best practices so seriously.

In order to be a member hotel of Ownia Collection we have created a set of sustainability standards that each hotel must follow to be part of our collection. Having in mind the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) standards, we have created 12 pillars that rule our standards in order to become a more sustainable and effective community.

As proud members of the GSTC we are actively promoting sustainability as a common goal for travel and tourism.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT SUSTAINABLE & REGENERATIVE TRAVEL

The World Tourism Organization defines sustainable travel as the “management of all resources in such a way that economic, social, and aesthetic needs can be fulfilled while maintaining cultural integrity, essential ecological processes, biological diversity, and life support systems.”

Now let’s talk about regenerative travel! This concept refers to the act of leaving a place better than it was before you arrived. For a journey to be truly regenerative, it must contribute to the well-being of the land, animals and humans of that place. The regenerative travel experience isn’t just about lowering your carbon footprint or buying local, it is about actively improving the social or environmental conditions of the place you’re visiting.

Every year the hotel industry produces around 1700 tons of waste this is the same as 16 Cloud Gate Sculptures of waste
The tourism industry is responsible for 8% of the world's carbon emissions.
455 million liters of water get wasted = 182 Olympic size swimming pools
Annually the tourism industry produces 18 billion tons of single-use plastic waste it's equivalent to 1854 Eiffel Towers of plastic waste
The hotel industry must reduce its carbon emissions by 66% by 2030 and be a net zero industry by 2050 to positively impact climate change and reduce global warming.
