SUSTAINABILITY

Susafa, a charming country retreat nestled in the hills of the countryside in the province of Palermo, has been committed for years to an environmental sustainability project that takes the form of eco-sustainable and low-impact choices.

The environments of Susafa, an ancient farmhouse and today a modern eco-retreat, have been the subject of a conservative restoration aimed at reducing the environmental impact as much as possible both during the restructuring phases and in the choices of furnishings.

The activities organized by Susafa allow the guests of the boutique hotel to learn more about the traditions of the area and the “old-fashioned” trades, by participating in demonstrations on cheese making or in cooking courses to learn how to make traditional dishes, using zero km products and acquiring greater awareness of the importance of the agri-food chain.

And in 2005, Susafa reforested 50 hectares of forest.

Susafa organizes periodic training programs for employees, because an organization aware of environmental issues is also more responsible.

Susafa encourages its guests to live an experience in direct contact with the surrounding environment, trying – as far as possible – to limit the use of technology.
Reconnecting with the rhythms marked by nature, detoxifying from frenetic city life and fully enjoying the benefits of the countryside is the profound meaning of a “digital detox” stay in our country eco-retreat.

As far as the area of catering services and food and wine products is concerned, Susafa’s priority is that the products on the menu are zero km and of vegetable origin. Susafa’s wine list favors wines that come from the Castellucci Miano and Tenute Tasca D’Almerita cellars, which are located about 12 km from the property. The cheeses and dairy products as well as the meat come exclusively from nearby farms. (fish is served only on request). Plus home-grown vegetables, herbs, fruits. Susafa promotes biodiversity by banning the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers. They manually eliminate the weeds, giving free space to the spontaneous flora, especially in an area of the garden of about 6000 square meters where they have already started a project to enhance the local flora since 2014. Covering an area of over 40 hectares, they adopt certified organic natural cultivation practices. In addition, Susafa has its own “Let’s sow the future” project in support of sustainable agriculture.
