From October 8–10, 2025, Mexico became the epicenter of climate innovation in Latin America. The first edition of México por el Clima – Climate Action Week took place at Papalote Museo del Niño in Mexico City, marking a historic milestone for the country and positioning it as a key actor in the global climate agenda.
This unprecedented multisectoral event brought together more than 100 national and international organizations—including Climate Group, Climate Week Latam, and the United Nations in Mexico—to create an inclusive space for dialogue, learning, and collective inspiration. The goal: to foster meaningful synergies and concrete commitments across sectors, driving a just, resilient, and sustainable transition toward a regenerative future.
For Ownia Collection, it was an honor to be part of such a transformative moment—one that reflects everything we stand for: the intersection of luxury, sustainability, and positive impact.
We were inspired by innovative initiatives from companies both large and small—from CEMEX’s global sustainability strategy to local businesses promoting zero-waste lifestyles, regenerative beekeeping, and artisanal honey production. These projects, rooted in community and creativity, exemplify the diversity and richness of Mexico’s environmental movement.
The event was also an opportunity to see how technology and innovation can redefine our relationship with the planet—whether by testing a self-driving Tesla or engaging with hands-on experiences that brought climate solutions to life.
One of the highlights of the week was the panel “The Power of Regenerative Travel,” featuring María Olazábal, founder of Ownia Collection, alongside representatives from the public sector, major hotel groups, and entrepreneurs such as Emiliano Iturriaga, founder of Rutopía.
These examples illustrate the essence of regenerative travel—an approach where sustainability benefits everyone: the planet, local communities, and the economy. As María emphasized during the panel, “sustainability is a win-win.” It’s about finding cleaner, fairer, and more thoughtful ways to connect with our world.
The tourism industry has immense potential to drive environmental and social regeneration. But to achieve real transformation, everyone must be part of the solution—governments, hotels, businesses, and travelers alike.
As travelers, it’s no longer enough to simply visit a destination; we must immerse ourselves in its culture, understand its rhythms, and treat it as a home away from home. When we feel that connection, we naturally want to protect and nurture it.
México por el Clima reinforced what we already know: change is urgent, and collective action is the only way forward.
