Reforestation is the most important action Nayara Gardens takes to protect the rainforest and the wildlife that lives near and in the resort. Planting new trees reduces the number of greenhouse gases in the air, benefiting the local climate. As those new trees grow, they help rebuild endangered habitats, the leading threat to the health of all wild animal species. They have slowly and painstakingly replanted native species in the forest and set out a tropical garden throughout the resort which has created a natural refuge for birds, monkeys and sloths. They have an extensive collection of tropical plants including palms, cycads, flowering trees, and vines. Their collection also includes different varieties of ginger, heliconias, and tropical bamboo.
Nayara Gardens thinks local, they want their local community to thrive. The majority of their staff members come from the neighboring town of La Fortuna de San Carlos. They offer them free transportation, sustainable tourism education, and health services. Some of their additional local initiatives include free early education for their employees’ children, financial support to a local orphanage (Hogarcito de Niños) and support for local artists.
Nayara Gardens´ Chef has the responsibility to create unique delicious plates with organic vegetables, fruits and herbs of great quality from what’s available in the region.
Nayara Gardens´ buildings are sustainable and renewable. Land topography allows this resort to orientate their rooms smartly to maximize the effects of sunlight and ventilation, minimizing the need for air conditioning and heating. They use energy-conserving light bulbs and lighting systems.
Nayara Gardens uses water-conserving faucets.
Nayara Gardens is working hard to become a single-use plastic free resort. They have replaced plastic water bottles with reusable glass bottles in the villas, eliminated plastic straws, and continue to recycle plastic and cartons.
