Our Habitas Bacalar is a lakeside sanctuary set on 8 hectares along the vibrant waters of Lake Bacalar in Quintana Roo, Mexico — just three hours from Tulum International Airport and 30 minutes from Chetumal. As the first global hospitality brand in Bacalar, Habitas blends natural beauty with sustainability and mindful living.

Guests stay in 34 A-frame rooms surrounded by nature, enjoy seasonal cuisine at Siete, and reconnect through wellness experiences like yoga, temazcal ceremonies, and water therapies. Our impact initiative, Habitas RISE, supports lagoon conservation, sustainability, and community empowerment.

Rooted in plant-based techniques and regional traditions, our kitchen honors the rich flavors, colors, and history of Quintana Roo through mindful, soulful cuisine.

Experiences are rooted in six pillars: music, wellness, food & beverage, adventure, art, and learning. Wellness lies at the heart of every moment, blending mind, body, spirit, and human connection. Guests are invited to walk through our botanical gardens, explore the traditions of Mayan culture at our cacao and melipona honey huts, and discover a holistic approach to self-expression. Our personalized treatments, crafted with local ingredients like melipona honey, coconut, and cacao, are designed to restore balance and nourish from the inside out.

Environment

Our Habitas Bacalar embraces a deep responsibility to protect its natural surroundings. Through collaborations with community leaders and environmental nonprofits, the team supports the regeneration of the Bacalar Lagoon Watershed via the Noh Bec Reforestation Program and actively monitors water quality in partnership with Agua Clara. An innovative Acoustic Biodiversity Mapping project, created with ConMonoMaya, blends science and sound to better understand and protect the region’s delicate ecosystems.

Community empowerment is central to the Habitas philosophy. Through their global impact initiative, RISE, they support local economies, educational programs, and cultural preservation. From youth development projects to artisan collaborations, every stay helps create opportunities for the people who call Bacalar home. Local Produce

Our Habitas Bacalar works closely with local farmers and artisans to source organic produce and hand-crafted goods. Vegetables from the Xhazil Community and welcome bracelets made by the women’s cooperative El Cuyo are just two examples of how local partnerships shape the guest experience while supporting micro-economies and cultural heritage.

Energy

Sustainability starts with design. Habitas uses modular construction techniques that reduce environmental disruption and energy use, while maintaining high design standards. Carbon emissions are offset through their partnership with Cooperativo Ambio’s Scolel’te reforestation program, funded in part by proceeds from community concerts and events.

Water

Preserving Bacalar’s iconic “seven shades of blue” is a top priority. Water conservation systems are integrated throughout the property, and partnerships with local organizations ensure ongoing efforts to protect and sustain the interconnected water systems of the lagoon and surrounding area.

Waste

Our Habitas Bacalar is proudly single-use plastic free, recognized with the Oceanic Champion Badge for its commitment to The Oceanic Standard. Waste is carefully sorted, recycled, and composted in partnership with local groups, setting a strong example of responsible hospitality in the region.
