Safari in Kenya

Your journey through Kenya kicks off at Sasaab, where you’ll be greeted by the breathtaking Samburu landscape, a harsh yet strikingly beautiful environment. Here, you’ll encounter the unique and endangered Grevy’s zebra, among other remarkable species like the Oryx, Somali ostrich, and gerenuk. Your time at Sasaab offers you a wealth of opportunities, from camel rides to fly camping and the chance to witness the vast elephant populations native to the area.

Your adventure continues with a visit to Solio Lodge, a place where luxury meets wildlife conservation. Nestled between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountains, Solio Lodge stands as the sole property within the expansive 19,000-acre Solio Conservancy. Here, you’ll witness the astounding black and white rhino populations and other iconic African animals like lions, leopards, and buffalo. The exclusive access to this conservancy allows for unforgettable wildlife encounters.
Your remarkable safari through Kenya reaches its grand finale at the iconic Giraffe Manor. This classic manor house is home to the Rothschild’s giraffe, which frequently visits the hotel to interact with guests. The experience of feeding these majestic giraffes from the terrace is unlike any other in the world. A visit to the Giraffe Centre within the Manor’s grounds offers a deeper understanding of these elegant creatures. You can also explore the Karen Blixen Museum, where history and culture come to life. The journey comes to a memorable end with an intimate breakfast with the giraffes before you move to The Retreat at Giraffe Manor for a day of relaxation in a heavenly suite.

Climate and Game Viewing

Your Kenya safari can be enjoyed throughout the year, but the best time to visit depends on your wildlife preferences. Animals tend to congregate around permanent water sources during the dry season, from January to March and late June through October. In contrast, the wet season at Sasaab (March to May and from October to December) sees animals dispersing across the area, making them harder to spot. However, Solio Lodge’s unique 19,000-acre conservancy ensures that incredible game viewing is available year-round.

Preserving the Grevy's Zebra

The Grevy’s zebra is one of Africa’s most endangered large mammals and the rarest of the three zebra species on the continent. Their populations have faced substantial reductions in their range, primarily due to habitat loss. To help conserve these unique creatures, The Safari Collection partners with the Grevy’s Zebra Trust (GZT).
GZT works in an area covering over 10,000 square kilometers across northern Kenya. Their vital work includes population monitoring, education, community outreach programs, protection against poachers, and habitat restoration. GZT is dedicated to saving the Grevy’s zebra, a species whose survival is essential to the delicate balance of Kenya’s ecosystems.

How Can You Help Conserve Grevy's Zebra?

You can join the mission to conserve the Grevy’s zebra by donating to the Grevy’s Zebra Trust. Your contribution goes a long way in supporting their field teams’ efforts to protect this endangered animal and its fragile habitat in northern Kenya. Here are some ways your donation can make a difference:
  •  $1,500 can train, equip, and fund a Grevy’s Zebra field officer for a year.
  • $50 can fund one year’s supply of datasheets and batteries for three Grevy’s Zebra Scouts in the Westgate Conservancy.
  • $450 can purchase a Sony HX400V digital camera for Grevy’s zebra stripe-ID monitoring.
  • $1,000 can fund Ngeeti Lempate (known as ‘Mama Grevy’) for a year, a key member of the Grevy’s Zebra Scouts program in the Westgate Conservancy.
